Last episode of 2023 has a country twang! Ethan did the audiobook recording for Willie Nelson's new memoir, Energy Follows Thought. He'd do anything for the red-headed stranger! We also discuss one of his buddy Josh Hamilton's only starring roles, The House of Yes (1997), a wacky picture with Parker Posey front and center. Just felt like throwing Josh a bone I guess! Wow Ethan once again surprises us when we think we're on hiatus! This time he showed up in the excellent 'FX on Hulu' show RESERVATION DOGS, which I was thrilled to finally watch. We were tipped off by friend of the show Rachel Attias so of course she had to join us! He's playing Elora's dad and he's great! So is the rest of the show! It's not long, go watch it! We're back with a quick update from the Toronto International Film Festival, where I saw Ethan's new movie Wildcat! It's... well... it's not amazing. But that's okay! He'll get there next time! Yee-haw! We got our hands on the new Pedro Almodovar short film STRANGE WAY OF LIFE, starring Ethan and Pedro Pascal as gay cowboys reuniting after twenty years! Ethan's a tattoo artist named Nat in this! We wanted to have this in the Cameo Extravaganza but we couldn't find it! But it's here now, and it's not very good. But he's got a barbed wire forehead tattoo, so that's fun. With this we will be entering a months-long hiatus, one that could actually end at any time. Which is not that different than how we've operated the past few years. But when he has a new project out, we will be there! And so will you! Keep Hawke-ing the skies!

All journeys come to an end... we are finally talking BEFORE MIDNIGHT, the final chapter in the saga of Jesse and Celine... for now! Sorry, guess this isn't Before Sunset after all! Haha! Turns out Ethan directed a short film starring his dear friend Josh Hamilton back in 1994! We are nothing if not completionists, so here's an episode about it! It's pretty good, but only on The Hottest State dvd, which I assume you do not own. Keep Hawke-ing the skies!

Ethan's got a new documentary about the lives and careers of PAUL NEWMAN AND JOANNE WOODWARD! Wow! To discuss these titans of Tinseltown, we've brought on legacy guest Zach Thorpe (of episode 18, The Purge, way back in 2017)! We get into the careers of Paul and Joanne, the ups and downs, Ethan's little buddies (come on Hawke Cast, Josh Hamilton!), what a creative life well-lived truly means, and Cars. It's a big ep! Can you believe it's been three years since the last season of Stranger Things? So much has changed! We don't have to think about it. But Maya Hawke keeps being a charming and fun part of this show that just keeps padding things out for no real reason other than Netflix needing their numbers to stay way up! They could be screwed by the time Volume 2 drops! That would be wild. We talk Robin's role this season, how they're setting up for a final one, Adam Pally, Soapy Hadid, and more!
